The Columbia Gas 2008 SUMMER JAZZ CELEBRATION

Saturday July 26, 2008 11AM-Midnight - most sets FREE

Historic Bellefonte, PA

featuring TOM MALONE and BYRON STRIPLING

Welcome to JazzPA - Central Pennsylvania's own jazz organization! We're thrilled to have Columbia Gas of Pennsylvania as our lead sponsor for this fabulous day of jazz in Bellefonte.

Thanks to everyone who came out to join us on Saturday May 3 at Barnes & Noble for a Bookfair to benefit JazzPA and the Summer Jazz Celebration. We heard fabulous music from the Kevin Supina Quintet, guitarist Mac Himes and the Greg Johnson Quartet.

Please join us July 26th for a full day of sizzling jazz: From 11am thru midnight music will be heard from the Garman Opera House Theatre to the "Diamond" at the County Courthouse to Tallyrand Park's famous Gazebo and in eateries and clubs throughout town. The day promises to be filled with high quality jazz featuring local and regional artist favorites.

Featured guest artists for the Columbia Gas 2008 Summer Jazz Celebration are: Tom Malone (trombone), whose credits include the NBC Orchestra with David Letterman; his work as an original Blues Brother and in the original Saturday Night Live band - www.tommalone.com; and Byron Stripling (trumpet/flugelhorn), whose credits include the Count Basie Orchestra; Dizzy Gillespie; Wynton Marsalis's Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra and Artistic Director, Columbus (OH) Jazz Orchestra - www.byronstripling.com; with the Russ Kassoff Trio (Russ Kassoff (p), Jay Anderson (b) and Dennis Mackrel (d)).

Tom and Byron will give a master class (free and open to the public) from 11am-12noon on Saturday at the Garman Opera House.

Information on how to purchase tickets for the evening concert at the Garman Theatre forthcoming - please check back with us soon.

Bellefonte is a town of 6,400 nestled in the mountains three miles south of I-80, in the dead center of the state of Pennsylvania. It was home to seven governors, and holds one of the most exquisite Victorian downtowns in the United States. The rampant demolition of historic structures so prevalent elsewhere in the 1950s to 1970s largely bypassed Bellefonte. The Bellefonte Museum sits in the center of the town's National Historic District.
